Frequency offset estimation for GSM and EDGE
نویسنده
چکیده
A low complexity method for estimating the frequency offset in global system mobile(GSM) and enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE) is proposed. The method isbased on minimising a suitable least squares (LS) metric utilising both the pilot (training)and tail symbols available in GSM and EDGE. It is shown that the tail symbols areimportant in estimating frequency offset even though they are few relative to the pilot(training) symbols. Via computer simulation it is shown that overall performancecompares favourably to standard methods for estimating the frequency offset in GSMsuch as the method by Luise and Regiannini (L&R;). A Low-Cost and High Performance Solution to Frequency Estimation for GSM/EDGE
Frequency synchronization in GSM/EDGE includes Frequency Burst (FB) detection and FB tone frequency estimation. This paper focuses on the FB frequency estimation, which is the frequency estimation from a single-tone signal. Different from conventional suboptimal solutions, the solution described in this paper is based on optimal Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation with a sequence of efficient im...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Estimation of The Fundamental Parameters of Distorted Single Phase Signals
This paper proposes a new method for parameter estimation of distorted single phase signals, through an improved demodulation-based phase tracking incorporated with a frequency adaptation mechanism. The simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared to the conventional SOGI (Second-Order Generalized Integrator)-based approach, in spite of the dc-offset and harmon...
متن کاملExperimental evaluation of the impact of network frequency synchronization on GSM quality of service during handover
Poor accuracy of frequency references used in GSM Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) can lead to dropped calls, slow handover between cells and even co-channel interference. In this paper, we report some results of an experimental trial carried out in the Omnitel-Vodafone test plant in Milano (Italy). In authors' knowledge, this is the first paper confirming with experimental data that lack of B...
متن کاملAnalysis of MIMO Transmission for GSM/EDGE
Inspired by recent TSG GERAN (Technical Specification Group GSM EDGE Radio Access Network) contributions, we propose a multiple–input multiple–output (MIMO) transmission scheme for GSM/EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) with two antennas on each side. Performance is compared to that of single–antenna transmission with one and two receive antennas, respectively. Also, an approximation ...
متن کاملChannel and delay estimation algorithms for wireless communication systems
This thesis addresses the problem of channel and propagation delay estimation in wireless communication systems. Channel estimation and equalization compensate for channel distortions. Consequently, transmitted data may be reliably recovered. A feasible communication link, in both single user and multi-user communications, requires synchronization between the transmitter and the receiver. Tradi...
